CD and DVD covers can offer unique design opportunities. Both of these projects ended up being parodies of well known covers. The above image for "Puttin On The Hits" was a special DVD made for "Weird" Al Yankovic. My brother and I performed several lip synching performances of "Weird" Al's music over the years, and I made him a compilation DVD of the performances. When I was trying to think up an idea for the cover, I figured what better tribute to the song parody master than to do a cover parody! In this case, I took reference from the cult favorite comedy "Monty Python & The Holy Grail". I used similar fonts and a similar layout to the cover with a hand cloud included. Instead of it holding a holy grail filled with the Pythons, I made a grapefruit (which is from one of the songs performed) filled with other song references, "Weird" Al, my brother, and I.
Carol Glass is a tribute artist who performs songs by Patsy Cline. With this CD, I tried to replicate one of Patsy Cline's famous greatest hits album covers. All the little nuances of the cover were in place in this parody. I used the same artist layout, the same fonts, the same shapes, and I even changed the record label's logo to the sponsor's name.
